Electronic Image Competition – “After Dark”
First Place
Image of the Month
“So Pretty” Jan Kloes
“This image was taken using a Canon SL1 camera with an 50mm f/1.8 lens. It was taken at f/1.8, 1/125 sec. at ISO 400. The starry background was achieved by using opaque paper with the star shape cut into it placed in front of the lens. The technique is called “shaped bokeh”. Bokeh is the out-of-focus parts of an image produced by a lens. In this case the starry lights were Christmas tree lights behind the ornament. I had seen this effect on photographs before, and decided to experiment”.
