Technical info: Nikon D810, handheld, 1/100 second @ f6.3 and ISO 400. 24-70 mm lens at 24 mm.
Image was taken in open shade at ‘Art along the Rogue’ on H St. between 6th and 5th St. I did my best Donald Duck impersonation. The dog tilted his head and I took the shot. Processed in Lightroom and Photoshop for basic corrections and added a Topaz filter (Fur and Feathers) for a unique look.

Umpqua Gem Ross Steensland
This photo was taken over Cow Creek just West of Riddle Oregon as it enters the canyon on March 16th. I was there to explore the area and was not expecting much of a sunset since it was fairly overcast, but a pink glow lit up the West end of the canyon.

Golden Snow Ross Steensland
This photo was taken on the top of Boomer Hill road just North of Myrtle Creek on Feb 21st. I drove up with the intention of taking some portrait photos of Beth, but found the snow to be too deep and bitter cold. Seeing signs of a good sunset and finding a beautiful snowy field with snow capped trees, I knew I needed to wait for sunset there.

I had shot this particular plant over a series of days trying to get the perfect shot. This small insect was there nearly every day, but getting all the elements to come together was super challenging. I wanted in my mind to get a single bloom, in the right spot plus the insect at the right spot, with sharp focus throughout. The insect was the hardest part as it NEVER stopped moving and in fact was very camera shy. Nearly every shot with the insect in it inevitably was out of focus due to movement or other focus problems. Compounding the problem was hand holding the heavy camera/lens combination, while coaxing the insect to stay high up on the blooming part of the plant. Shooting at f/29 for maximum DOF did not help either. Eventually I managed to get a couple images that I was happy with, and learned that patience outweighs skill in some instances.
Shot with a Canon 5DMKIV, 100m lens combination. Speedlights we used off camera, ISO 1250, f/29, at 1/10 sec.
Sean Bagshaw will be our guest speaker for the March 6th education meeting. Sean is a landscape/travel photographer and photo educator based in Ashland, Oregon. When he’s not creating he enjoys teaching and sharing. In addition to selling fine art prints and licensing his images, he teaches image developing, leads workshops and give presentations when able. His presentation will be based on his recent trip to Iceland and the Faroe Islands. This is one meeting that you do not want to miss!

I made this image at the lighting studio at SOU, in my photography class we were to bring whatever we wanted to photograph while playing with the lights. I had one speed light on her face off to the right for this shot. My camera settings were, ISO 100, 70mm, f14, 1/200sec.
Congratulations! Daniel on a beautiful image. Look for Daniel’s image in print in the Daily Courier.
My lucky stars must have been active when I was driving back home around midnight one night from scouting the river. I passed this pulled over vehicle on the Indian Mary side where it looked like they were changing a tire or something and realized as I crossed Hellgate bridge that it might be worth turning left instead of right at the end of the bridge. Sure enough, the bridge was lit up beautifully by their headlights. I was able to get off a few shots before they departed and voila.
Coffee Break Susan Sheets
This is from my old neighborhood in Portland. I love that everything in this image is black and white except for her beautiful skin and the coffee.
