Two first Places

Cuban Trogon by Lynda Rodig

Lynda writes about her image:

Taken in Cuba at Dos Hermanas Campground (named for the mountains), the trogon was very obliging in the rain, not moving around much at all.  Taken with my 150mm-400mm lens w/1.25 extension at 445mm, 1/160 sec., f/5.6, ISO 1600

Flap It Off By Larry Pollock

Larry writes about his image:

The birds of Reinhart Park in Grants Pass are always fun to try and capture. The water is always an interesting part of the captures. This female Hooded Merganser seems to have no mate. Maybe she is a very young one. Watching one bird waiting for the right moment and behavior takes time and focus.

Settings: ISO 800 – 1/1250 sec – f/7.1 – 450mm

Never A Couple By Larry Pollock

Larry writes about his image:

The assigned “Odd Couple” category was one of the more challenging ones this year. Finally hitting on the idea of drugs and alcohol, I went into the studio to create the image. The setup was a black glass table with a black background. Three studio lights were used, one for the rim and backlighting, one for the front light (Key light), and one with a red gel to give a “red light” warning as the background.

The ‘Never A Couple’ image was easy to set up. The process was straightforward, and the time needed to take the photos was surprisingly short. Even editing was relatively quick this time, as little dust settled onto the table and subjects.

Settings: ISO 320 – 1/250 sec – f/11 – 50mm

May 2024 Photo Of The Month

Geese Fighting by Jim Ingraham

Jim writes about his image:

Technical data: Shot with a Nikon D850 and 200-500 mm lens at 340 mm. ISO 450, 1/1600 second at f5.6.

This image was taken at Reinhart Volunteer Park (AKA All Sports Park) in the spring of 2023.

The geese get very territorial when babies are coming soon and chase each other off quite often. It’s very entertaining to watch.

Congratulations! Jim on a beautiful image. Look for Jim’s image soon in the Daily Courier.
