Two First Places

Quiet Sunrise    Nomeca Hartwell

A typical beautiful and peaceful September sunrise taken 10 days before the end of my lookout ‘career’ though I didn’t know it at the time. I blended 2 bracketed shots to get the foreground and sky properly exposed and then took it from there with some luminosity masks and a little dodging to get the feeling right. Taken on a tripod with my Nikon D750  and the 24mm  f1.8 lens at f/4, 1/640 sec., ISO 1600 ( manual settings), 2nd shot at 1/160  ( +2EV). Blended in LR, finished in PS.

If The Shoe Fits    Dale George

This image was taken at the Pike Place Market in Seattle about 3 years ago. I was at the lower level and saw this “Shoe Museum” or others would call a tourist trap. I loved the nostalgic look and feel of it and had to have it.

Taken late day when the crowds had diminished. Used my trusty old Canon 5DMKIII and 24-70 Canon lens. No flash was used and I had it on a tripod. I took a 3 image bracketed set at ISO 2000, set on aperture priority, f/6.3 and average exposure of 1/50th sec. I usually set my bracketed sets at plus and minus 1 stop or slightly more. Blended in Photomatix and worked on in Lightroom. This still rates as one of my top ten favorite images of mine because of the nostalgic look.

Russ Williamson

The subject is a Blue and Gold Macaw.  This photo was taken with my Nikon camera, and a free standing flash with reflecting umbrella.  The camera settings were F/16, 1/80 sec., ISO-200, and a focal length of 165mm in the 35mm format.  The photo was sharpened, and cropped in Photoshop for showing on the club’s projector.
I’ve been a Caveman Camera Club member for the last twelve years and I’m currently assisting the club as the Electronic Image Coordinator.  Photography has always interested me, and I enjoy seeing the images each month that the club members show.

Congratulations! Russ on a beautiful image. Look for Russ’s image in print in the Daily Courier.

I Like Sun Stars     Dave Church

“This photo was taken as the sun was rising over the Applegate River at my home.  It was shot on April 13th, when I was scouting around for some images to submit to the Club “Wide-Angle” competition coming up the following week.  I have always like sunstars, and I thought this turned out pretty good. The original shot was taken with my Canon 6D using a 16-35mm lens. The camera settings were 1/80 sec, f16, ISO 250, 16mm.  It was processed in Lightroom.  I’m a big fan of the Clarity, Dehaze, and Vibrance tools, and I also played around with the HSL colors section”.

Tube City    Jim Ingraham

‘Tube City’ Technical data:  Nikon D700 with Sigma 14-24 mm lens at 14 mm. ISO 400 and f14 at 1/500th second. This image was taken at 17th and Lawrence in downtown Denver on a warm winter day this last Christmas. Shooting straight into the sun. I had to lay on my back to get the sculpture to frame the skyscrapers. I believe it was a Sunday so I didn’t get too many weird stares from people.

The White Walkers Are Coming    Rose Christner

“This was shot on 11/18/18 at Dale Georges studio. A few of us came to play with Dales dolls…as he so graciously set them up, provided lighting as well as smoke. It was a first for me and I had a lot of fun shooting. This image was one of hundreds I took that day at 1/8 sec, F5.6, 27mm, ISO 500 with my Canon EOS 80D on a tripod. To all of us there, it was about the lighting and moving them and shooting thru the smoke. Very fun and cool way to learn how to make the shot! Thanks again Dale!
This was named after the “Game Of Thrones” series that is so popular right now. “The White Walkers Are Coming”.”

Contemplating The Bottom    Susan Sheets

I visit this waterfall often in the Willamette National Forest. Last July was the lowest I have ever seen it.  I enjoyed finding someone’s rock cairn on this visit while I contemplated the falls and captured some images of this place that is special to me.  Shot at 15mm, f8, ISO 640, 1/8sec.
