January Image Of The Month

PNW, Late Spring Rain

Photograph by Ozzie Cummins

I had been exploring some of the fire burned area from last summer’s Klondike Fire.  It was raining all morning with fog and low clouds obscuring most of the high country.
I was following a logging road near Silver Creek, west of Chrome Ridge.  I drove down a steep ridge heading west.  Suddenly, the sun partially broke through, lighting up the tips of the limbs of Douglas fir and the newly recovered (from fire) ferns in some areas of the scene. It was classic PNW in full bloom!
It was shot with my Nikon d750, 28-300mm lens. Focal length of 56 mm, F8, 1/500 sec at ISO 100.
I began photography about the time I joined the Caveman Camera Club in 2009.  I’ve enjoyed photography, camaraderie with other club members, and 4x4ing ever since.  They all go together so nicely.

Congratulations! Ozzie on a beautiful image.  Look for Ozzie’s image sometime soon in the Daily Courier.

Two First Places

Reflections Of Fire    Ross Steensland

This photo is a composite of the foreground and sky.  The foreground is a small cow pond that my family has been hunting near for years.  It was shot in early September at sunset.
f11 30′ iso 50
Canon 6DmkII, Canon 24-70 f2.8, B+W polarizer filter. The sky image was taken right after a thunderstorm.  I blended it into the sky via select and mask tool in photoshop.  To create the refection, I cut out a segment of sky, rotated it 180, warped it to fit perspective, and blended it into the pond and the original tree refections.  f11 1/3′ iso 50

Three First Places

Mother Nature’s Paintbrush    Cynthia Briseno

I took this picture on highway 238 on my way to Jacksonville with my Canon m50 lens 24-70.

False Kalmath Cove    Greg Smith

This image was taken in early January, 2020 on the Northern California coast, just North of the town of Klamath.  I spent the morning chasing Fog, Mist, or Rain for the assigned subject.  I loved the morning sun filtering through the fog, coupled with some nice surf at this location.  This was taken using my Canon 5D, Mk IV and 24-105mm lens.  My settings were: 24mm, f/18, ISO 1600, and 1/200 sec.

December Education Meeting is Wed. the 18th – FIX MY PHOTOS!

If you haven’t accessed Jim’s Dropbox email for the photos that need “fixing” please contact Jim Ingraham.  You will find four downloadable photos that you can add your own personal post processing spin on.  Reviewing them together at our meeting will give you a lot of post processing ideas and hopefully a new skill or two!

Please send your images to Dave Church or bring them on a thumb drive for display and discussion.

See you at 7pm!

Next time…… FIX MY FACE, ha, ha.
