Jan. Ed. Night isn’t until the 19th so you will hopefully have plenty of time to maybe shoot some new images in black and white. Below is a link to a super short “TIPS” list of things to consider while shooting. I’m definitely going to try some filters as I haven’t done that before with black and white specifically in mind. https://www.photodirect.com.au/5-black-and-white-photography-tips-to-master-monochrome/
Our hope is that the evening will provide all of us with some new insights about what makes a compelling photograph, a good print and always something about light.
Feel free to bring multiple black and white prints and we’ll look at all of them as time allows.
This was taken off my back deck with the 400 lens and an adapter (560mm). I was practicing on tracking bees. 1/1000 sec, F8, ISO 1250, Canon EOS 80D. I always shoot with a tripod to reduce camera shake. I always use Manual on my camera.
Fall Creek Jim Ingraham
Fall Creek is off Hwy 58 (Willamette Hwy) about an hour southeast of Eugene. It’s a beautiful day hike with some impressive falls. The creek is wonderfully surrounded with greenery. This image was taken in June a couple years ago. Shot with a Nikon D850 and 24 mm lens on a tripod. F16 at about a second and ISO 64.
Under The Fuchsia Rose Christner
I was out practicing tracking the Hummers under the Fuchsias and playing with the speed from the Canon EOS 80D. I used the 400 lens with a 1.5 adapter (560mm). On a tripod I shot on Manual at 1/4000 sec, F8, ISO 4000. I used natural lighting at 1:30pm and reflected light from our white trellis that illuminated the Hummer from underneath. Practice, practice, practice!
Sunset Cruise was taken by Pixel phone on the spur of the moment at an altitude of 845′ (7th st. Bridge) as a glorious August 1st sunset broke through the cloudy west skies. I was fortunate to catch several returning dinner jetboats along with a fisherman and his swimming dog (right edge). All of this made for a very nice scenic card that now sells at Gallery One. 😊
Solo Larry Pollock
Walking the sand dunes just south of Florence, OR, on a grey day looking for an image to capture. Shutter speed was my main thought for these riders in motion.
